Superfoods, Super Fast

This summer, introduce a diet of key superfoods into your daily routine and you’ll have your best summer yet. We’re loving three superfoods that we’re calling “super” not only because of their health benefits and being nutrient dense, but also because you can prepare them “super” fast. Yes, this summer we love puns, quinoa, kale, avocado and aren’t afraid to show it.

Everyone’s favorite superfood is quinoa, partly because it has gotten a lot of coverage in health magazines that boast about the protein this fruit-that-looks-like-a-grain has to offer. The best way to cook your quinoa to the right consistency is with a Breville Risotto Plus Sauteing Slow Rice Cooker and Steamer. Cooking quinoa is a feat that you perform by reading the instructions on the bag each time before you attempt to do it. Do you boil the water first without the quinoa or with it? With a rice cooker, you save all that aggravation and are left with delicious and fluffy quinoa. The best part about quinoa recipes is that you can go either savory or sweet with it. For a sweet summer treat, throw some craisins, chopped almonds and roasted sweet potato into your quinoa and you’ll have a dish that even the pickiest eaters will want to try.

Trying to dethrone quinoa from its role as most talked about superfood is the one and only kale. Kale is best bought organically and has a myriad of ways to sneaking into your menu. Of course, the easiest way is through a smoothie in your Vitamix Professional Series 200 Blender. Organic kale, banana, almond milk and ice cubes is the simplest smoothie that combines in your Vitamix Blender to create a sweet and refreshing drink that’s packed with nutrients. Another fan favorite, kale chips, are simply made by chopping up your organic kale, sprinkling them across a baking sheet and covering with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. Place this into the oven for about fifteen minutes at about 300 degrees and voila, you have a new superfood approved snack on your hands!

For your third summer time superfood, incorporate avocado into your recipes. Avocados can be messy when cutting them up, and that’s why you should first buy the Chef’n Flexicado Flexible Avocado Slicer with Stainless Steel Blades before you embark on any avocado adventures. The Chef’n Avocado Slicer fits any sized avocado and slices it faster than you can say “superfood,” prepping it for a guacamole recipe or to simply eat with your eggs for a healthy fat. Your sliced avocado can also go well with that green smoothie you used your kale for; the creamy consistency will blend right in with the banana and you won’t even notice it’s in there! Looking for a new way to try avocado? Mash up your avocado with organic cacao powder and some stevia for sweetener and you’ll have a raw chocolate mousse for dessert. A superfood for dessert? We’re coming to that dinner!
